Mahindra is planning to add another SUV in its line-up. The new SUV will be based on the same platform as the Ssangyong Tivoli or the X100 platform and will be priced between the TUV300 and the XUV500.
Mahindra has been working with Ssangyong for quite a while now. Mahindra is now planning to add another SUV to its already extensive offerings. The new SUV will help Mahindra bridge the gap between its TUV300 and the XUV500. The new SUV will be based on the Tivoli platform of Ssangyong, also known as the X100 platform.
Mahindra so far has managed to keep the new SUV safely under wraps. We can safely assume that the new SUV will come with both the petrol and diesel drivetrain options. Mahindra is planning to extend its current line-up into the petrol market as well. The petrol drivetrain will feature an all new 1.5-litre unit, which is expected to go onto the NuvoSport offering as well. The diesel drivetrain for the new SUV though might carry over the 1.6-litre unit from the Tivoli.
Mahindra plans to launch their new SUV, which is still under development only by around the end of 2017. The launch of the Tivoli from Ssangyong though is expected anytime in the coming few months. The Tivoli from Ssangyong is expected to be priced anywhere between 15 – 20 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi), while Mahindra’s new SUV can be expected in the range of 9 – 11 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
The new SUV will, with the expected price-tag provide a direct competition to the likes of the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta . The SUV might also inadvertently rival with one of its own. Mahindra already has an extensive line-up in the similar segment with the TUV300 and the NuvoSport. With the new SUV under development and the launch of Tivoli in a few months time, it might just leech off of each other’s demands.
