The Ford Mustang has been launched in India at INR 65 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
After more than 50 years, the Ford Mustang becomes the first American muscle car to be officially launched in India. Bookings are being accepted in Mumbai and Delhi for now. More cities will be added to the list soon. It will be brought into the country via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route.
The sixth generation of the Mustang is also the first Mustang with a right-hand drive version. This allows Ford to sell it in key markets like UK and India. India will get only one variant of the Mustang, the Mustang GT. It was unveiled at the Auto Expo earlier this year.
The Mustang GT comes powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine which has been detuned for the Indian market. It now produces 395.5 bhp and 515 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters. This propels the sports car to a top speed of 250 kmph. It gets four driving modes – Normal, Sport+, Track, and Snow/Wet modes. The car rides on 19-inch wheels.
The muscle car comes with Electronic Line Lock, which locks the front wheels so that a burnout can be performed easily by the driver. The car also comes equipped with ambient lighting, automatic headlamps, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice control, automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, rain sensing wipers, leather seats and leather wrapped steering wheel. It also gets a lot of safety features including a host of airbags, rear-view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and Electronic Stability Control.
