The upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been seen testing with camouflage. It could be the most powerful stock Mustang ever built.
The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is expected to be based on the current Shelby GT350 Mustang. However, as the spy pictures suggest, the car will get a new meaner front end with more aggressive air intakes to feed air to a massive engine under the bonnet. The rear of the car remains largely similar to the GT350R, with a new rear spoiler.
Powering what could be the most powerful stock Mustang will be a new twin-turbo V8 engine. It could be based on the 5.0-litre unit in the Mustang GT or the 5.2-litre unit found on the GT350. Both engines are currently naturally aspirated. The engine will produce more power than the new Camaro ZL1‘s 650 bhp V8 engine and more than the old GT500’s 662 bhp, which was powered by a supercharged V8 engine.
The powerful engine will be paired with a manual transmission as standard. It will also get the option of a 10-speed automatic transmission, which was co-developed with Chevrolet and will be used in the Camaro ZL1.
The new 2018 Ford Mustang GT500 could debut at an auto show later this year or early next year and will go on sale late 2017 or early 2018. It will be more expensive than the GT350R, with a price tag of more than $65,000. The muscle car will compete with the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Dodge SRT Charger Hellcat, and the Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat.
