The Aprilia SR 150 has finally been launched in the Indian market. The scooter has been priced aggressively at Rs. 65,000 (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). Here is the first in-depth look and a walk around of the SR 150.

We at AutoEsperto had a chance to visit one of the Piaggio showrooms where the Aprilia is being sold and got our hands on the recently launched Aprilia SR 150. The Aprilia SR 150 aims to cater to the youth and the younger generation with a sporty crossover scooter. The Aprilia around the world for its rich racing heritage and a history of producing one of the best sportbikes. Now they have entered into the smallest segment and here is how it fares.

The Aprilia SR 150 was first unveiled at the Indian Auto Expo held earlier this year. The SR 150 scooter will be manufactured at the Piaggio plant in Baramati, Maharashtra, but will be designed and engineered in Italy.

The Aprilia SR150 will come with a single-cylinder 150cc 4-stroke air-cooled 3-valve motor which will produce 12PS of power and 11.5Nm of torque similar to the current engine on the Vespa. The Engine on the SR 150  though will be lighter than on the Vespa. The Aprilia SR 150 will also get 14-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels similar to the ones seen on the Aprilia racing bikes on the MotoGP Championship Circuits.

High rise pillion seat, dual headlamps on the beak, and indicators to the sides of the handlebar add to its sporty looks.It has provision for USB phone charging as well. The Aprilia SR 150 with all its racing and sportbike heritage could have got a standard digital instrument cluster rather than the analogue instrument panel available. Disc brake clutches the wheel on the front end ,while a drum brake governs the rear wheel. The scooter will be available in matte white and black colours with stylish body graphics on it.

One thing which did stand out was the seating position, the rider position on the scooter is more upfront and straight which can be a bit uncomfortable while riding. The high rise pillion seat means the presence of an inclination at the centre of the seat which adds to the uncomfortable position as tall people will find it hard to adjust and sit comfortably.

The Crossover scooter will be available across India through Piaggio’s dealership. The On-Road price for the SR 150 comes up to Rs. 83,000 ( On-Road Price, Bangalore) with a current waiting period of 45 days .
