First Look Of The New Skoda Kodiaq Launched In Berlin

Skoda has finally revealed their first ever mid-sized SUV, the Skoda Kodiaq, the sales of the new SUV from the Czech carmaker will commence in early 2017 in the European market.

Ahead of the Kodiaq’s official launch, Skoda had been releasing teasers for the much-awaited SUV. The Skoda Kodiaq will be borrowing the exterior styling from its VisionS Concept featuring characteristic angular lines, Sleek LED taillamps, double headlamps and Skoda’s butterfly front grille.

Skoda along with a large array of images also released a couple of videos showcasing the first 7-seater Kodiaq SUV from the Czech manufacturer. The car will commence sales in the European markets by early 2017, while it can be expected to reach Indian shores only by late 2017 or early 2018.

The SUV measures 4,697 mm long, 1,882 mm wide and 1,667 mm tall with a 2,791 mm wheelbase. The Kodiaq is based on Volkswagen Group’s modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform. With the entry-level TSI engine and front-wheel drive, the large SUV weighs 1,452 kg, while the 1.4-litre TSI engine with all-wheel drive weighs around 1,540 kg. These measurements allow the Kodiaq to feature the largest boot space in its segment, with a capacity of 720 litres with the third row folded down which increases to 2065 litres if the second row is folded down as well.

The interiors of the Kodiaq is typical to any Volkswagen with familiar lines and design but, the quality of material and the finish is more up-market and premium with a uniqueness to it. The Skoda Kodiaq is the first SUV from the carmaker to feature third-row seating.

The Kodiaq will get three engine options, two petrol and one diesel. The option for the petrol engine will be in the form of a 1.4-litre TSI and the 2.0-litre TSI. The 1.4-litre TSI will again have options of either producing 123.2 HP or 153 HP power outputs, while the 2.0-litre TSI will produce 178 HP power output. The diesel engine will be a 2.0-litre TDI producing either 148 HP or 188 HP. All these engine options will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a DSG automatic gearbox. The base model of the 1.4-litre petrol with 123 HP will not get the option of an automatic gearbox.
