The Volkswagen Polo GTI has been launched in the country at INR 25.99 lakhs
The Volkswagen Polo GTI was showcased at the Auto Expo held in Delhi earlier this year and just like the vehicle shown, it is now available as a 3-door car. It is the first proper hot hatchback to be made available in India. However, the hot hatch is limited to just 99 units.
The limited edition car is powered by a 1.8-litre, four cylinder TSI engine producing 189 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The hatch returns 16.34 kms to a litre of fuel.
The 3-door hatchback comes equipped with LED headlights with DRLs, new sporty bumpers, GTI badging on the honeycomb grille, ORVMs with turn indicators, red brake calipers and dual chrome exhaust pipes. On the inside, it gets leather-wrapped, multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, sports seats, leather wrapped hand brake lever and brushed stainless steel pedals. The steering wheel and seats get red contrast stitching.
Other features include hill start assist, cooled glove box, a 6-speaker music system, power adjusted and heated exterior mirrors, particle filter, start/stop system with generative braking and cruise control.
With additional power comes more safety features. The Polo GTI gets electronic stability control, front and rear disc brakes, six airbags, park distance control, cornering lights, electronic differential lock and rear fog lamps.
The Volkswagen Polo GTI has been priced at INR 25.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and INR 25.65 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It is limited to just 99 units for Indian customers. This could be a deliberate move by the German car maker to drive up sales as selling hatchbacks at such a steep price would be more difficult. It is aimed at serious motoring enthusiasts. Its closest competitor would be the Abarth Punto.
