Jaguar I-PACE Concept Revealed Ahead Of LA Auto Show Debut

The Jaguar I-PACE Concept SUV has been revealed through a virtual reality experience ahead of its public debut at the LA Auto Show

The new 5-seater Jaguar I-PACE is based on an all-new bespoke electric architecture that Jaguar say gives it the performance of a sports car. Powering it are a pair of electric motors, one on the front axle and the other on the rear axle. They have a combined power output of 400 PS and 700 Nm of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from a standstill to a 100 kmph in less than four seconds. Powering the two motors is a 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack which gives the I-PACE a range of more than 500 kms (220 miles). It takes just 2 hours to fully charge the batteries on a 50 kW DC charging network.

Visually the I-PACE looks smaller than the F-PACE and comes with extra air vents that give at an aggressive and sporty look. The concept also has a sloping rear windscreen that give it the looks of a coupe SUV. Considering that production version of Jaguar cars tend to look similar to their concepts, the production version of the I-PACE will look largely similar to what you see here.

On the inside, the SUV comes with premium interiors just like any other Jaguar. It gets a large panoramic glass roof and two touchscreens including a 12-inch touchscreen Interactive Driver display to replace dials. The seats are sporty and come with more support.

Jaguar claims that the virtual reality launch is world’s first with VR hubs in Los Angeles and London giving selected guests virtual access to the car. The lucky participants experienced the car being built around them and even speeding towards them. They could also communicate with each other. The experience also came with the inclusion of social interaction and a live presenter broadcast. The new virtual reality experience is now available through a dedicated Jaguar app allowing others to experience the concept from anywhere and anytime. HP, Dell, ReWind and Imagination worked with Jaguar to create the world’s largest, global connected virtual reality experience.

The new Jaguar I-PACE concept will make its public debut at the LA Auto Show on the 16th of November. The production version of the car will be out by 2018.
