Christened the E-Type Zero, the electric E-Type makes its debut at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest in London.
Jaguar has taken a Series-1 E-Type Roadster and has removed the original straight six engine. The original powertrain has been replaced with an electric powertrain. The new powertrain has been specially designed for the E-Type Zero.
It consists of a 220kW lithium-ion battery back which has the same dimensions and similar weight as the original engine. Jaguar has ensured that the battery pack is placed at the exact spot where the original engine lay. The electric motor has been placed right behind the engine, exactly where the E-Type had its original gearbox. The car also gets a new propshaft that sends power to the differential.
During the conversion, the E-Type has lost 46kgs. This has also resulted in an increase in performance. The E-Type now quotes a 0-100kph (62mph) in 5.5 seconds. That is one second quicker than the original car.
To achieve energy efficiency, the electric version of the classic car gets LED headlights. The new lights has been designed to be similar to the original lights on the car.
The new E-Type Zero is currently on display at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest along with the upcoming Jaguar I-Pace. What do you think of this conversion? Yay or nay?
