A new Audi R8 RWS has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Audi R8 will be available in a limited number of Rear wheel drive option.
Audi has released a new variant of the R8 called the Audi R8 RWS, where the RWS stands for ‘Rear Wheel Series’. The German car maker unveiled the limited edition of the supercar at the Frankfurt Show, with the production limited to just 999 units to be manufactured in both Coupe and Spyder body styles.
This move from Audi is a significant departure from its standard Quattro system, which has now become the brand’s identity. The carmaker says that the new rear wheel spec of the Audi R8 will give it a more race car like experience on the road while trying to channel the feel of the R8 LMS.
The power comes from the standard 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine producing a maximum of 533 BHP of power and 540 Nm of torque with a top speed of 199mph. All this power will be transmitted to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The new Audi R8 RWS will be a more tail happy car even though it has the same power figures as that of the standard AWD R8. Also, with the AWD system replaced with an RWD, the change translates to a reduction in weight of up to 50 kgs for the Coupe variant and 40 kgs for the R8 Spyder variant.
Coming onto the visual changes for the new Audi R8 RWS, the car features the same design as the standard R8, but has an additional matte black finish on the exterior including the grille and the air intake. The new Audi R8 RWS also gets an optional availability of red stripes similar to that on the R8 LMS GT 4.
Prices of the new Audi R8 RWS starts from 140,000 Euros for the Coupe variant and 153,000 Euros for the Spyder variant.
