The 2 Series gets a range of fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines with power output ranging from  109 hp and 231 hp for the Active Tourer and 109 hp and 192 hp for the Gran Tourer. The four-cylinder diesel engine now gets two turbochargers and all diesel engines will soon get new technology to reduce emissions further. A 224 hp plug-in hybrid variant is also available with an electric range of 28 miles.

The Tourer gets an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and a six-speed manual transmission. A new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is also available.

The new tech also includes safety features like a cruise control with adaptive speed regulation and a Traffic Jam Assistant, which keeps the car in lane at speeds of up to 37 mph.
